iHealth PT3 no-touch infrared forehead thermometer with LED display

The iHealth PT3 is a no-touch forehead thermometer that uses an infrared sensor to read temperature from the center of the forehead. Hold the probe about 3 cm (1.18 in) away, press the single measurement button, and the result appears on the LED screen.

The device vibrates when a reading is taken, shows Fahrenheit or Celsius across a range of 89.6 to 109.2 F, and powers itself off after 8 seconds. The manual says it can be used for babies, children and adults, with an adult taking readings for babies and children.

It runs on two AAA batteries and works in rooms between 59 and 104 F (15 to 40 C). It is intended for consumer use, is not suited to a forehead with lesions or wounds, and does not replace a conversation with your physician.

How do I take a reading?

Aim the probe at the center of the forehead and hold it about 3 cm (1.18 in) away, roughly the width of an adult index finger. Do not touch the forehead. Gently press the measurement button and the device vibrates once the reading is shown.

Can I use it on a baby or child?

Yes. The manual says it can be used for babies, children and adults, but babies and children should not operate it themselves. An adult should take their readings.

What does the display show?

Temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius, from 89.6 F to 109.2 F (32 C to 42.9 C). To change units, hold the measurement button for 8 seconds while the device is off, press to switch, then hold 8 seconds to confirm.

Why did my reading fail?

The manual lists a distance over 1.18 in, a room outside 59 to 104 F (15 to 40 C) or with a large temperature swing, and a target outside the measuring range as common causes. Follow the manual and measure again.

Who should not use it?

The manual does not recommend it for a forehead with local lesions such as inflammation, trauma or postoperative sites. It is for consumer use, not professional use, and is not a substitute for talking with your physician.

What batteries does it use?

Two AAA batteries. Remove them if you will not use the thermometer for more than one month.
