Frequently asked questions

How do I pair it with my phone?

Follow the pairing steps in the Welch Allyn Home app. On the monitor, press and hold the Power button for 2 seconds to start Bluetooth pairing; the Bluetooth symbol flashes while it connects. Your phone or tablet must support Bluetooth 4.0.

How do I get an accurate reading?

Sit in a chair with back support, legs uncrossed and feet flat. Rest your arm on a flat surface with the cuff level with your heart, and rest 5 minutes first. Put the cuff on a bare upper arm 2 to 3 cm above the elbow bend, snug enough for two fingers. Try to measure at about the same time each day on the same arm.

Which cuff sizes work?

The included standard wide cuff covers 22 to 42 cm. Welch Allyn also lists an extra small cuff (15 to 24 cm) and an extra large cuff (40 to 54 cm) as separate accessories.

What does the irregular heartbeat icon mean?

It appears when the heartbeat rhythm varies by 25% or more during a measurement. The manual says this is usually not a cause for concern, but to seek medical advice if it appears often. It does not replace a cardiac exam.

What power does it use?

4 AA alkaline batteries, included, or an optional Welch Allyn AC adapter. It powers down after 10 seconds of inactivity.

Who should not use it?

It is for adults, at home only. It is contraindicated for anyone with a pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted or wearable electronic device. The manual says it is not suitable for pregnant women, or for users with preeclampsia, premature ventricular beats, atrial fibrillation, peripheral arterial disease, intravascular therapy, an arteriovenous shunt, or a mastectomy, and to consult your doctor first. It is not a diagnostic device, and you should not change medication based on a reading.

Can I use it in a public place or on children?

No. The manual says it is not for measuring children or infants, and not for use as a self-measurement station in a public place. Use it at home or a temporary residence.
