Description
Description
Over-the-counter glucose tracking, no prescription
Dexcom Stelo is an over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor that reads glucose through a small sensor worn on the back of the upper arm. Readings show in the free Stelo app on a compatible phone.
Each sensor wears up to 15 days plus a 12-hour grace period, after a 30-minute warm-up. Dexcom states Stelo is for people 18 and older who are not on insulin, and not for dialysis patients or people with problematic hypoglycemia.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Who is Stelo for?
Dexcom states Stelo is an over-the-counter integrated CGM intended to continuously measure, record, analyze, and display glucose values in people 18 years and older not on insulin.
Who should not use it?
Dexcom says not to use Stelo if you are on insulin, on dialysis, or have problematic hypoglycemia. It also lists people modifying medication without talking to a healthcare provider and people with a history of eating disorders. Talk to your healthcare provider before changing medication based on sensor readings.
What phone do I need?
Stelo needs iOS 18.6 or Android 13 as the minimum operating system.
How long does a sensor last?
Up to 15 days, plus a 12-hour grace period. Dexcom notes that a share of sensors may not last the full 15 days. There is a 30-minute warm-up after you start a new sensor before readings appear.
Where does the sensor go?
On the back of the upper arm. Dexcom says to change the site with each new sensor to avoid skin irritation.
Can I swim or shower with it?
Dexcom says it is waterproof and can be submerged up to 8 feet for up to 24 hours when properly installed. Your phone may need to be within about 20 feet, and readings may not resume until you are out of the water.
Any imaging restrictions?
Yes. Dexcom labels Stelo as MR unsafe: remove it before MRI, CT, or diathermy. It also carries a choking hazard warning, so keep small parts away from young children.
