Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a phone to use it?
No. Garmin describes the Index BPM as a standalone device that shows your reading on its own display. The Garmin Connect app is optional and is used to store your readings for personal record keeping.
How does it sync?
You set it up through the Garmin Connect app over Bluetooth. If you also add a Wi-Fi network, new readings upload to your Garmin Connect account automatically. Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only (802.11 b/g/n), and the monitor can store up to 7 networks.
Who is it for, and what arm size does it fit?
Adults aged 18 to 75 with an upper arm circumference of 22 to 42 cm (8.6 to 16.5 in). If your arm is outside that range, this monitor is not the right fit.
Can I swap the cuff for a different size?
No. This is a tubeless design with the cuff built into the monitor, so there is no separate replacement cuff to fit it.
Is it a diagnostic device?
No. Garmin states it is not a diagnostic device. Contact your physician if the monitor shows hypertensive or high blood pressure values.
Does it detect irregular heartbeats or AFib?
Garmin's manual does not describe irregular heartbeat or AFib detection for this monitor, so we do not claim it. Talk to your clinician about any heart rhythm concerns.
What batteries does it use?
Four 1.5 V AAA batteries, which are included. Garmin rates battery life at up to 9 months.
