3M Littmann Cardiology IV stethoscope, mirror finish, dual-lumen diagnostic stethoscope

The 3M Littmann Cardiology IV is a diagnostic acoustic stethoscope with a stainless steel mirror-finish chestpiece. The double-sided chestpiece is about 40% larger with a bell about 60% deeper than the Littmann Classic III.

Each side has a tunable diaphragm, so light pressure favors low frequency sounds and firmer pressure favors higher ones. Dual-lumen tubing carries two sound paths in one tube, and the tubing contains no natural rubber latex or phthalate plasticizers. The 27 inch model suits adult and pediatric patients.

Ear tips snap on and come off for cleaning, and small and large tips are provided. The stethoscope contains metal, so it is not MRI-compatible, and Littmann does not recommend it for neonates. Choose Black or Burgundy tubing on the listing.

Is the chestpiece single-sided or double-sided?

Double-sided. Rotate the chestpiece to open the diaphragm side or the bell side. The side not in use is closed and blocks sound.

How does the tunable diaphragm work?

Light pressure on the chestpiece brings out low frequency sounds. Firmer pressure emphasizes higher frequency sounds, so you do not need to flip the chestpiece.

Can it be used on pediatric patients?

Littmann states it suits adult and pediatric patients. It is not recommended for neonates.

Is it latex-free?

The tubing does not contain natural rubber latex or phthalate plasticizers.

Can I use it near MRI?

No. The stethoscope contains metal and is not MRI-compatible.

Can it be engraved?

Littmann says it accepts laser engraving through authorized dealers. Scratch engraving is not recommended.

How do I clean the ear tips?

The ear tips snap onto the eartubes and can be removed for cleaning. See the owner's manual for cleaning and reassembly.
