The Philips HeartStart Home AED (M5068A) is an automated external defibrillator designed for use in the home and sold without a prescription. Voice prompts and visual icons guide you through each step if someone has a sudden cardiac arrest.

The battery and an adult SMART Pads cartridge come installed, so the unit is ready to use out of the box. It weighs 3.3 lb with battery and pads, measures 2.8 x 7.4 x 8.3 in and ships with a slim carry case.

Press the green On/Off button, place the pads as shown and press the orange Shock button only when advised. Adult pads suit patients 8 years or older or over 55 lb; the infant/child pads cartridge is sold separately. It is rated IP21 for indoor, drip-proof use.

Do I need a prescription or training?

Philips states the HeartStart Home is available without a prescription and is designed for use in the home. Voice prompts guide you through each step. Training in CPR and AED use is still recommended.

How does it work?

Press the green On/Off button or pull the green handle on the SMART Pads cartridge. Place the pads as shown, then press the orange Shock button only when the AED advises a shock.

Does it come with a battery and pads?

Yes. The unit ships with an M5070A battery and an M5071A adult SMART Pads cartridge installed.

Can it be used on children?

The adult pads are for patients 8 years or older or over 55 lb (25 kg). For younger or lighter patients use the M5072A Infant/Child SMART Pads cartridge, which is sold separately and lowers the energy to about 50 J.

How long do the battery and pads last?

The M5070A battery has a typical standby life of 4 years when installed by its install-by date. SMART Pads have a shelf life of about 2 years and must be replaced before the printed expiry date.

Is it waterproof?

No. It is rated IP21, meaning drip-proof and intended for indoor use.
