A clinical thermometer built for fast oral readings
The Welch Allyn SureTemp Plus 690 predicts oral temperature in approximately 4 to 6 seconds and also measures axillary and rectal temperatures. It is made for healthcare professionals and is not intended for home use.
Color-coded probes and removable probe wells separate oral/axillary from rectal use, and Monitor mode tracks temperature continuously. It runs on three AA alkaline batteries.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Is it for home use?
No. The manual says the SureTemp Plus is a clinical-grade thermometer for healthcare practitioners in settings such as hospitals, clinics, long-term care or mobile health care, and is not intended for home use.
How fast is it?
In Normal (predictive) mode: oral about 4 to 6 seconds, rectal about 10 to 13, pediatric axillary (17 and younger) about 10 to 13 and adult axillary (18 and older) about 12 to 15. Times do not include contact detection or probe placement.
What are the probe wells and colors?
Blue probe and blue well are for oral and axillary temperatures only. Red probe and red well are for rectal temperatures only. Using the wrong well can cause cross-contamination.
Do I need probe covers?
Yes. Use only Welch Allyn single-use disposable probe covers and a new cover for each patient. Probe covers are not part of the unit.
How is it powered?
Three 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries, shipped installed. Remove them for long-term storage. The display shows a low battery warning before the batteries die.
What is Monitor mode?
Monitor (direct) mode gives an actual temperature reading for about 3 minutes continuously. The thermometer enters it automatically if the probe is out of the well and no reading is completed. The manual recommends 3 minutes at oral and rectal sites and 5 minutes at the axillary site.
What should I avoid?
Do not take an axillary temperature through clothing. The unit is not waterproof and not protected against water ingress, and the probe well must not be autoclaved. Use only recommended accessories.
